The Toronto Speculative Fiction Writers Group is an in-person critique and discussion group for speculative fiction writers in the Toronto area. We have been meeting on a twice-monthly basis for more than seven years. Our members write short stories and novels, for both adults and teens, in a wide variety of speculative genres: traditional fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, horror, magic realism--it's all good. Our main objective is to develop and prepare our stories for submission to magazines and publishers.

How We Work

Every two weeks, the Toronto SF Writers Group meets at a member's home to critique members' stories and novel chapters, and to talk about books, writing, and the publishing industry. We typically critique two stories per meeting, and meetings usually last about two hours.

Other Activities

Starting in 2007, the Toronto SF Writers Group has organized a summer writing retreat for members, in a peaceful setting at a cottage in the Ontario wilderness.

Joining the Group

The Toronto SF Writers Group limits its membership in order to keep the group manageable. However, even when we are full, we keep a waiting list of those interested in joining for when a spot opens up. Check our joining page to find out we're currently open to new members.
